This software package contains the run-time environment, the run-time libraries, and the run-time help system for the Common Desktop Environment. It also contains utilities to migrate from the previous version of AIXwindows Desktop (xdt) to this version of the AIX Common Desktop Environment.
The AIX Common Desktop Environment package requires approximately 77.2 megabytes of disk space.
Stop the AIX Common Desktop Environment and any Desktop applications before installing another version of the software.
The AIX Common Desktop Environment can be installed in either standalone or networked environments. The filesets in this package are designed to facilitate either environment. For a standalone workstation, the following filesets must be installed: X11.Dt.rte, X11.Dt.helprun, X11.Dt.lib, X11.Dt.ToolTalk. In a networked environment, the X11.Dt.ToolTalk fileset may be installed on a server without installing the other filesets. Each client workstation, should install the following filesets: X11.Dt.rte, X11.Dt.helprun, X11.Dt.lib and X11.Dt.ToolTalk.
When X11.Dt.rte fileset is reinstalled in Version 4.1, configuration files from /usr/dt/config, /usr/dt/appconfig, and /usr/dt/app-defaults directories are saved in /usr/lpp/save.config. The contents of these files should merged manually by the user if desired and then deleted to reclaim space. Configuration files should be copied from /usr/dt/config, /usr/dt/appconfig, and /usr/dt/app-defaults to /etc/dt/config, /etc/dt/appconfig, and /etc/dt/app-defaults respectively, and then customized from the /etc/* location.
If the AIXwindows desktop from Version 3.2 (part of the R4 release of the X11rte.ext.obj package) is installed, the root user will be prompted to choose between keeping or removing the files belonging to the old desktop. Since the root user may want to delete the files at a later time, the path name of the script that performs the deletion is provided.
