Packaging Guide for LPP Installation

Data Link Controls Package

The Data Link Controls package contains communications layer-2 data link controls that support the AIX Generic Data Link Control (GDLC) interface for wide area and local area networks.

Fileset Information

Fileset Name Description Requisite Software
bos.dlc.com

Common Data Link Control Files

This fileset provides all the common files necessary for the operation of the data link controls. None
bos.dlc.com_enet

Common Ethernet Data Link Files

This fileset provides files that are common between the IEEE (802.3) Ethernet and Standard Ethernet data link Controls. bos.dlc.com

Common Data Link Control Files

bos.dlc.fddi

Fiber Distributed Data Interface Data Link Control

This fileset provides full-duplex peer data transfer capabilities over an FDDI token-ring local area network, using the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard publication Fiber Distributed Data Interface - Token Ring Media Access Control and a superset of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic (IEEE) 802.2 logical link control protocol. bos.dlc.com

Common Data Link Control Files

bos.dlc.8023

IEEE Ethernet (802.3) Data Link Control

This fileset provides full-duplex peer data transfer capabilities over an Ethernet local area network, using the IEEE 802.3 CSMA/CD medium access control and a superset of the IEEE 802.2 logical link control protocol. bos.dlc.com_enet

Common Ethernet Data Link Files

bos.dlc.ether

Standard Ethernet Data Link Control

This fileset provides full-duplex peer data transfer capabilities over an Ethernet local area network, using the Ethernet Version 2 CSMA/CD medium access control and a superset of the IEEE 802.2 logical link control protocol. bos.dlc.com_enet

Common Ethernet Data Link Files

bos.dlc.sdlc

Synchronous Data Link Control

This fileset provides a half-duplex access procedure for transparent and code-independent information interchange across data and teleprocessing links using the IBM Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC) protocol. bos.dlc.com

Common Data Link Control Files

bos.dlc.qllc

Qualified Logical Link Control

This fileset provides a half-duplex access procedure for attachment to an X.25 packet-switching network. This data link control provides full support for the 1980 and 1984 version of the Consultative Committee on International Telegraphy and Telephone (CCITT) recommendations relevant to SNA-to-SNA connections. It supports point-to-point connections over an X.25 network between a pair of primary and secondary link stations. bos.dlc.com

Common Data Link Control Files

bos.dlc.token

Token-Ring Data Link Control

This fileset provides full-duplex peer data transfer capabilities over a token-ring local area network, using the token-ring IEEE 802.5 medium access control and a superset of the IEEE 802.2 logical link control protocol. bos.dlc.com

Approximate Disk Space Required

The Data Link Controls package requires approximately 1.2MB of disk space.

Special Hardware Requirements

The data link controls can be installed into the system at any time. The hardware communications adapters do not need to be installed before installing the data link controls. These data link controls become usable, however, when the desired hardware communications adapters and software device drivers are also installed.

Special Installation Notes

Any currently available data link controls can be removed from the kernel through the System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) or by issuing the rmdev command. See "Removing a DLC" in the AIX Version 4.3 System Management Guide: Communications and Networks.
