Distributed System Management Tool (DSMIT) enables the System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) in a distributed environment. The Distributed System Management Tool product contains support for the server and various brands of remote machines. The DSMIT product has two packages, dsmit and dsmit.data.

The Distributed System Management Tool software requires approximately 7.8 megabytes of disk space.
The dsmit.sol.data package has the following hardware requirements:
The dsmit.sun.data package has the following hardware requirements:
The dsmit.hp.data package has the following hardware requirements:
The dsmit.sol.data package must first be installed on the system administrator's local machine where DSMIT will be run. This package does some configuration to the machine. It also creates a tar image in the /usr/share/DSMIT/Solaris/inst.images directory. This tar image contains the DSMIT daemon to be run on the Solaris machine.
The dsmit.sun package must first be installed on the system administrator's local machine where DSMIT will be run. This package does some configuration to the machine. It also creates a tar image in the /usr/share/DSMIT/SunOS_4.1.3/inst.images directory, which must be brought over to the Sun machine. This tar image contains the DSMIT daemon to be run on the Sun machine.
The dsmit.hp package must first be installed on the system administrator's local machine where DSMIT will be run. This package does some configuration to the machine. It also creates a tar image in the /usr/share/DSMIT/HP-UX_9.0/inst.images directory, which must be brought over to the Hewlett-Packard machine. This tar image contains the DSMIT daemon to be run on the Hewlett-Packard machine.
More information is available in the Distributed System Management Tool (DSMIT) documentation or README files in /usr/share/DSMIT/Solaris/inst.images, /usr/share/DSMIT/SunOS_4.1.3/inst.images, and /usr/share/DSMIT/HP-UX_9.0/inst.images.
The dsmit.aix_3_2.data package must first be installed on the system administrator's local machine where DSMIT will be run. This package does some configuration to the machine. It will also create an installp image in /usr/share/DSMIT/AIX_3.2/inst.images. Additional information is included in the README located at /usr/share/DSMIT/AIX_3.2/inst.images.
If migrating from a previous version of Distributed SMIT to Distributed SMIT Version 2.2, a complete reinstall is required due to changes in security and communication interfaces. DSMIT Version 2.2 can be migrated to AIX Version 4.2. Migrating DSMIT Version 1.1 or 2.1 to AIX Version 4.2 is binary incompatible due to a difference in message catalogs.
