The SOMobjects Base Toolkit, Version 2.1 for AIX, gives the professional programmer a toolkit for creating object-oriented class libraries in C or C++. The toolkit's language-neutral support allows a single SOM (System Object Model) binary class library to be used by applications written in different programming languages. SOM also offers backward binary-compatibility for class libraries. The SOM Compiler -- an IDL (implementation definition language) compiler -- is provided in the toolkit. Distributed SOM (DSOM) lets programmers create distributed SOM applications that cross multiple processes within a RISC workstation. DSOM is a CORBA-compliant ORB (object request broker), as advocated by the Object Management Group. The SOMobjects Base Toolkit is a subset of the IBM SOMobjects Developer Toolkit, Version 2.1.
The SOMobjects Base Toolkit software requires approximately 7.6 megabytes of disk space.
