System User's Guide: Communications and Networks

Identifying Compatible Systems

To establish a connection with another system (local or remote), you need exact information about that system. Use the uuname command to list system names and other descriptors.

Using the uuname Command

Issue the uuname command to display a list of all systems accessible to the local system. For example, when you enter:

uuname

at the command line, the system displays a list such as:

arthur
hera
merlin
zeus

This information is used to determine, for example, the name of an accessible system before copying a file to it. The uuname command is also used to establish the identity of the local system.
